South America: Dream Destinations
Researching and picking out destinations is undeniably the best part of an around the world trip. The hard part is narrowing it down. A year seems like an awfully long time, a blank slate upon which you can write all of your wistful wanderings. That is until you start writing down places and cities and experiences, and realize that your list of 587 places to see, do and be, is totally unrealistic. Though we’d love to explore the southern reaches of Patagonia and see the magical aurora borealis in Norway, the reality is that we just can’t do it all. And the restraints aren’t just budgetary. They’re time and climate based too. Ulimately, we’ll have to pick and choose.
Right now the plan is to stay in South America for 3 or 4 months, taking it easy and really soaking up the culture. No doubt, there’s a lot to see and do, but we also feel like it’s a place where walking the streets and yes, sitting in coffee shops for hours, is going to give us the best sense of the continent. It’s a place to just be and experience.
This list is by no means exhaustive – we still have a lot of research to do before finalizing things – but the following dream locations are definitely in the “must do everything humanly possible to get to these destinations” area. But if anyone has a must see destination in South America, let us know!
