Weekly Photo Challenge: Selfie

Like it or not, the selfie is here to stay.

In Korea, it seems you can’t walk down the street without seeing a young woman, posing, making cutesy faces and taking picture after picture of herself. As one of the most wired (and in my opinion, most vain) cultures around, the selfie has reached epidemic proportions here. Someone find an antidote quick! (Can you tell I’m in the anti-selfie camp?)

I’m so anti-selfie that sometimes I wonder if I’m actually Korean. Maybe I was switched at birth somehow?

As you can imagine, this week’s Weekly Photo Challenge, caused me quite a bit of pain, because I don’t tend to take very many pictures of myself. I always prefer to be behind the camera, not in front of it!

I had to really dig through the archives, but finally found this one from a trip to Bangkok in 2009! Ok, so you can’t really see my face, but it’s the best this anti-selfie can do. ๐Ÿ˜‰

  1. No worries. You are not alone. Selfie mania is taking over. And I’m not completely opposing either. The only ones that make me cringe are the buffheads men, and women exposing themselves shamelessly. Even that, I can’t really blame them fully. ๐Ÿ˜€

    • Selfie mania is right. I totally agree with you about the meatheads and the shameless women…that’s what makes selfies so insufferable – the complete and total narcissism involved. Ugh.

  3. I’ve never taken a selfie outside and don’t have too many inside. I took some with my hats because I had friends who wanted to see them. But it’s fun to see everyone.

    • But, but…your selfie photo is beautiful and elegant. I think it’s the shameless self-promotion and vanity part of it that I have issues with…and all the teenage girls wearing too much make-up and posing provocatively to get attention. It’s just too much.

      • I know exactly what you mean. Glad you found mine to be in good taste.

  4. I hate selfies, too! You’ll not see a single one on my instagram page. I don’t use them as FB profile pics, either. The only time I do selfies are when I want to send my close friends/relatives pictures of me making goofy faces. haha

    • Heh heh. I think I have some goofy face ones around too…but NOBODY sees them, except for the intended audience. We only do selfies when we’re traveling and there’s no one around to take pics for us… but it’s never a solo selfie. I always make my hubby pose with me….or better yet, take the pic with his super long arm. ๐Ÿ™‚
