  >  Asia   >  Capturing the Twinkling Sun in Udaipur

There’s no shortage of incredible palaces, cities and forts in Rajasthan, but former Mewar capital, Udaipur, was definitely one of the highlights.

We took the Karni Mata Mandir Ropeway to the top of Machhala Hill, and were rewarded with a magical, sweeping vista of the entire city. The glittering City Palace complex, Sajjangarh Fort, and 2 of the region’s 3 lakes were laid out before us.

The sight of the sun setting over the Aravali Hills across Lake Pichola was so enchanting, I couldn’t resist trying to capture a little bit of it’s twinkle for my very own.

The world is full of stunning sunsets. Where was your most dazzling?

What a beautiful picture! The best sunset I’ve seen was on Rapa Nui and Hawaii comes in a close second. There’s something so enchanting about seeing the sun set into the ocean.

It’s true! The sun setting over the ocean is a magical combination. Where is Rapa Nui? And agree that Hawaii has some truly amazing sunsets. Some places are definitely blessed in the nature and beauty department, that’s for sure. πŸ™‚

Rapa Nui is Easter Island; it’s in the middle of the Pacific Ocean! It’s a beautiful place πŸ™‚

Lovely post and beautiful sunset. My best sunset EVER was on the beach in Souther Cambodia, most definitely one of the most beautiful things I have ever seen.

Thanks Aaron! I never made it to any of the beaches in Cambodia…I’ve heard mixed reports? which one were you at? Sounds like it’s worth visiting. πŸ™‚

I went to Sihanoukville – The best beach there was Otres Beach. Seriously worth a visit πŸ™‚

Thank you! πŸ™‚ It was really gorgeous up there, and practically deserted. Lots of space to experiment.

We had a lot of fun up there. It was so calm and peaceful, a rarity in India that’s for sure. πŸ™‚

Yes a little like Shanghai on steroids with all the noise and beeping! When I go home and the crickets and birds make noise I cannot sleep. The road noise I can now block out πŸ˜‰ Although we are lucky to be away from a main street and facing into a green space, so it is quieter than most street facing apartments.

Lol…that’s so funny that crickets and birds keep you awake at home. For me, it’s the damn roosters, who think that dawn is all night long. πŸ˜€ We’re all slowly turning into city robots…street noise is way easier for me to block out too. πŸ˜‰ We’re lucky too…our apartment is absolutely silent at night, well, except for when some drunk idiot is screaming out his sorrows in the middle of the night. >.<

We have a piano player who is really bad and replays the same song over and over…. ug! The best sleep I had was in the Philippines with the waves and wind… we had a little hut on a hillside. Heavenly!

What a fabulous picture, love it! My favourite sunset would either be over Venice or from Cafe Mambo in San Antonio Ibiza. Neither is particularly exotic but both are beautiful! Thanks for a great photo challenge!

Thanks! πŸ™‚ Sunset over Venice would be really amazing for sure, and Ibiza must be one of the best places in the world to enjoy a gorgeous sunset. Definitely want to make it there one day, but not to party lol. Maybe just to hang out at Cafe del Mar – one of my favourite CD series of all time. πŸ™‚

I’ve been to Ibiza a few times and Cafe del Mar is indeed fabulous – sooooo chilled out! Last time I was there was with my sister out of season and Cafe del Mar had a mix of locals plus a few expats etc rather than the usual summer tourists getting drunk which gave it a really wonderful atmosphere. And it was warm enough to sit out under the veranda. Plus the island is gorgeous with some lovely beaches, a great old town and restaurants etc. Sunset over Venice is definitely good but the sunset from Ibiza was fab as the sun set over the sea. I recommend both!

10 years ago, I would’ve been all over the clubbing scene there, and in some ways, I regret not experiencing Ibiza then, because now it would just be so wrong for me. It’s nice to hear you can still visit there and have a great time without all the revelry! πŸ˜‰
