If there’s one thing Seoul has in spades, it’s cafes. Some are useful, some are unique and some are just plain strange. There’s cat cafes and dog cafes, a sheep cafe, a raccoon cafe, and even a meerkat cafe. Book cafes, board game cafes, wedding dress cafes, and believe it or not, a poop cafe where you can drink your coffee out of a toilet and eat a poop shaped scone. Ya know…if that’s your thing.

And then there’s the cafe where you can drink your own face as latte art.

I feel like a bad expat/traveler when I admit that I haven’t ventured into even a small fraction of these themed cafes. What can I say? The idea of cat, dog, sheep, racoon, or meerkat fur in my caffeinated beverage doesn’t thrill me all that much. And it was difficult enough to get me into a wedding dress that one time, so trying on a series of frilly cupcake style ones over coffee isn’t really my idea of FUN.

The poop cafe? Ok, I admit I’ve been to that one, but I did not, I repeat, DID NOT eat a poop shaped scone.

Visiting Peach Gray Cafe

When vlogger friend Arielle invited me to check out Peach Gray Cafe, a new watercolour cafe, close to home, AND I had a night off from baby duty, I jumped at the chance to up my expat cred, despite having absolutely zero artistic ability.

A palette of watercolour paints and wet pens are served up with every drink order, and you can get all meditative while creating a masterpiece, since it takes 20 minutes to get a few orders of miniature pancakes. (They only have a few small burners in the place). You can ask for more paper at any time and sip on a pretty drink of your choice while you wait.

Peach Gray Cafe is on the back streets near the Lotte World Tower, in an industrial feeling area. The location didn’t stop it from filling up though, with a few guys even (with their girlfriends, of course), popping into the super feminine space to paint their cares away.

The cafe closes at 9pm, and more information can be found on their Facebook page.

I quite enjoy checking out the ridiculous cafes in Seoul – never heard of this one though! I’ll have to check it out, sounds more relaxing than one of the many animal cafes. I wonder what they will think of next!!!

It’s pretty new I think, and I’d say def more relaxing than those animal cafes! It’s close to Lotte World Tower, so you could check out Seoul Sky at the same time if you were interested in that. It’s worth it. 🙂

I’m going to have to agree with Brian, I think this place deserves a pass, unless you’re…I don’t know…stressed out! I bet even artistic types find such places silly. Why do they feel the need to have a theme? Just have an excellent cup of java and a kick-ass service. Am I wrong?

I think cuz there’s just so many damn cafes and competition in Seoul, places feel like they need to come up with something Instagram worthy for free marketing and buzz. Heh Heh. Yeah, normally this wouldn’t be my thing at all, but I actually enjoyed it…maybe kinda like those adult colouring books, which I also find really meditative.

Peach Gray! That’s a very interesting one although a little bit far from where I live. But the CaFace is a sure thing. Near my place and… it’s going to be a very unique experience. I am so bringing my husband there this weekend. Thanks!

You can thank Hallie for that one. Heh heh. I haven’t been yet, but I really want to go. Same reason that you won’t make it to Peach Gray though…it’s far from my house! We live in Jamsil area…

Thanks for the shout out! It looks like you guys really had a great time. Sort of glad I didn’t try to get over there with Ava though. Doesn’t look SUPER kid friendly at that hour anyway.

I kinda think more people will go to Caface than Peach Gray from this post…hahahaha. I STILL gotta get myself there. It’s a must do as far as I’m concerned. But yeah, I’d say it wasn’t very kid friendly. Lots of sharp corners and hard furniture…and kind of delicate feeling overall…

I love painting, so enjoying a nice beverage while painting really appeals to me! I need to make a note of the location. Thanks for sharing this!

Perfect for you then! It’s just down the street from the Lotte World Tower, so you could check out Seoul Sky while you’re there too, if so inclined. We just went and the views were incredible!

What an adorable little cafe!! I love the coffee shop culture here and while I’m not a fan of the animal cafes, this one is right up my alley as I love art. I also like that it’s super quaint and unique, I’m not a fan of the massive franchises everywhere. I’ll have to check out this place when I go to Seoul next!

Me too! I love how there’s a cafe literally everywhere you look, and the choices are really endless. You could spend your whole life just going from one interesting cafe to another in Seoul. I’m not an artist (by a long shot), but it was still really relaxing to put paint to paper.

I got a kick out of seeing all the themed cafes in Seoul but as a kitsch curmudgeon, I only went into the more basic ones! At least the pancakes look kind of good! 🙂

Haha, I guess I am a kitsch curmudgeon too then. I’ve been to hardly any, and also just head to basic ones – usually cuz I’m trying to get some work done. Definitely not possible in a themed cafe!

Mmmm as gimmicks go I’m not quite sure about this one. In theory I like it. It seems cool and fun, but then I think of the mess and I’m like…. pass. But that Caface place! I’m all in. Great find!

It was actually really relaxing and not messy at all, because the water is in the pen and you just kind of dip it in the hard paint. It was quite meditative actually. But yeah, Caface might be the best themed cafe ever…like seriously who comes up with this stuff?! 🙂
