A Little Taste of Thailand

Thailand has a smell. Wet, tropical and heavy with undertones of fish sauce, King coconut and burned brush. I’d forgotten it, but it assaults me the moment I step off the plane. I’m well and truly here. Finally.

It’s not my first trip to Thailand, but it’s the first time I’ve managed to give up the fantastic pad thais, coconut shakes and som tam, and choose to fast and detox instead. It’s something I’ve wanted to do for a long time, and now that I’m 6 days in, it’s safe to say I’m very happy with my choice.

I spent my first 2 days in Bangkok visiting friends, getting clothes tailored for Agri and filling up on all my favourite Thai dishes.

I couldn’t resist one last latte at Bangkok airport before boarding the plane for Koh Samui and my 14 days of zero food and zero coffee.

I’ve got daily massages, ozone and herbal steam sessions, morning yoga and a full day of juices, vegetable broth, bentonite clay and psyllium shakes, herbal tinctures, and colonics, all designed to detox me thoroughly from inside out. The schedule is seriously intense.

I’ve still got 8 days to go, and anything could happen, but so far, I’m loving this experience. I feel a beautiful emptiness, freedom from hunger and the tyranny of food, and a light expansiveness growing within me day by day.

    That is such an awesome idea to detox and cleanse yourself. Good luck with the remaining days!! On another note, you’ll probably want to bash me over the head for this but….IS THAT THAI MILK TEA I SEE???!!! I love thai milk tea!!!! ^_^

    • Hahahaha, yes indeed it is! I also love Thai milk tea. The sweetness is such a perfect compliment to the spiciness of thai food. I really only had 1 day to eat before coming here, and it was a tough choice between Thai iced tea and a coconut shake (which is my other favourite)…but in the end, the Thai iced tea won. 😉

  3. This definitely sounds intense!! But you know, I bet it is rejuvenating in a lot of ways. I’m interested to hear what you think about it when it’s all over!

    • I am really loving it so far, and feel rejuvenated on all levels. It’s like taking 2 weeks to really nurture yourself and to reset any “bad” choices you’ve been making with regards to your health. It’s Day 7, and today is the first day that I’ve felt any hunger… hope I make it through the next 7 days!!! 🙂

    • It is pretty hard, but fortunately we are allowed to have unlimited watermelon, pineapple, beetroot and celery juice over the course of the day. It’s diluted, but still tasty. 🙂

    • Lol…after 14 days with no food, I get to eat a papaya. 😉 Fortunately, there’s veggie salads and soups later on in the day. 🙂

    • I would whole-heartedly recommend it! This is the easiest fast and cleanse I’ve ever done. Not hungry at all, and of course, the environment is a detox all by itself. 🙂
