The Ultimate Travel Panorama Post (or Where’s Agri?)

When I first discovered the panorama function on my brand new Sony NEX-5 many years ago, it was completely unknown to most others. Many times, people would turn and stare as the camera fired off the series of shots required to stitch together a panorama. And no wonder, since the sound of all those frames clicking one on top of the other, sounded not unlike a round of gunfire.

In recent years, this function has appeared on virtually every device under the sun. Though it’s no longer the head-turning phenomenon it used to be, I’ll always love it’s ability to capture the scale of places I visit in a more accurate fashion.

So, in honour of all the fascinating panoramas my trusty Sony has allowed me to shoot all over the world, I’ve created a little travel quiz, called “Where’s Agri?” Sure it doesn’t have the same alliterative genius of Where’s Waldo, but well, he’s what I’ve got. πŸ˜‰

Where’s Agri?

Some of the answers can be found in prior posts on this blog, a few are quite obvious and there are a few destinations that I haven’t written about yet!

Initially, I wanted to provide a list of locations to match the photos to, but Agri wanted me to let you guess completely. Too easy otherwise, he says. So, I decided to compromise, and give you a few hints.

Four of the pictures above are in the following countries: Greece, South Africa, Canada and Norway. Where in the country exactly, and which ones are up to you!

So, what’s your best guess? Pictures are labeled A-J, and you can let us know A:___ B:___ and so on…

Where do you think Agri is in these pics? Let us know in the comments below. Good luck!

      • Ahhh man…. not 10/10 πŸ˜‰ Ha ha but practise makes perfect which, means I need to do more traveling!

        February 11, 2015
        • You were pretty darn close to 10/10 though…and of course, it means you need to do more traveling. πŸ˜‰

          February 12, 2015
  7. Yeah so I only know like 2 of these so I won’t embarrass myself any further by trying to guess… BUT these are great pictures! I try taking panoramics all the time but I’m never happy with them. You have mastered it!

    February 9, 2015
    • I should’ve trusted my instincts and made it a matching game, with a list of locations instead. (reminder not to listen to hubby anymore) πŸ˜‰ Lol…I only posted the good ones. Heh heh… there are so may that turn out badly with jagged edges and discombobulated faces!

      February 10, 2015
      • Haha! There you go – multiple choice, everyone’s favorite πŸ™‚

        February 11, 2015
  8. Great panoramic pics, Shelley. At a quick glance, I think I recognise, Portugal, Machu Picchu, Victoria Falls Zimbabwe, Argentina.

    February 9, 2015
    • Thanks Sylvia! Argentina and Machu Picchu are in there, but the falls are from somewhere else!! I’ll be making a post with all the answers a little later on. πŸ™‚

      February 10, 2015
  9. OOOO great panoramic photographs!

    February 10, 2015
    • Thanks Monica. I was so happy when I discovered that function on my camera. It makes it so easy to take interesting photos! πŸ™‚

      February 10, 2015
      • Indeed. I wish we had that much earlier. Now I use my iPhone to take panoramic photographs. =)

        February 11, 2015
  10. I will try:

A: No idea – Turkey? Cappadocia?
    B: Versailles
    C: Machu Picchu
    D: Greece
    E: Giza
F: Hawaii – Maui? (Although Agri looks too rugged up for the weather there and the cliff looks too white rather than black so I think I have this one wrong).
G: Iguazu Falls (Or the Canada side of Niagara?)
    H: Norway
I: Argentina (Based on the Salta Wine sign!)
J: South Korea somewhere? Or the Forget me not Lakes you wrote about?

I like the pictures even if I can’t get the places right πŸ™‚

    February 10, 2015
    • Great guesses! You got almost all of them…and great observation about F. It wasn’t Hawaii, but The Cape of Good Hope, South Africa. πŸ™‚ I’ll be making a post with all the answers some time next week.

      February 12, 2015
  11. The only one I recognize for sure is Machu Picchu. I love all the panoramas though. Mine always end up with an oddly curved horizon for some reason… πŸ™‚

    February 11, 2015
    • Yup! Machu Picchu is there in all it’s foggy glory. πŸ™‚ I get that curve sometimes too, as well as pics that veer diagonally. I have a habit of shooting in a kind of diagonal arc without realizing it…but nothing that can’t be fixed with a little bit of straightening in iPhoto, thank goodness. πŸ™‚

I love this idea! Great shots. <3

    February 12, 2015
    • Thanks Jen! πŸ™‚ This is not even half of them…I was totally surprised by how many I had lurking in my photo library.

      February 14, 2015
  13. Love this! I like panoramic pictures..but I always failed when about to create one πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€ nicely captured!!

    February 25, 2015
    • Unfortunately, I can’t claim any great photographic skill in getting these panoramic shots. Lol…I just press the button on my Sony and let it do all the work… πŸ˜€

I love to take panorama shots, but not good at them at all. See,s I cannot move my camera at just the right speed πŸ™
Fun game! Here are my guesses… don’t know many of them

    A – Turkey (Cappadocia)
    C – Peru (Macchu Picchu)
    E – Egypt (Giza)
F – Hawaii (looks like Waipio valley)
    G – Canada (Niagara Falls)
    I – Argentina

    March 4, 2015
    • I swear it’s my camera that does all the work. The panorama function is really amazing on my trust little SONY! πŸ™‚

It’s funny how many people thought that F was Hawaii. I guess Hawaii and South Africa must have some geography in common. That pic was taken at the Cape of Good Hope. And G is from Iguazu Falls on the Argentina side. Bang on for the rest of them. Thanks for playing!! πŸ˜€

      March 5, 2015
  15. All of these shots are super good! I like all of them. I also love to take pictures in panorama πŸ™‚

    March 6, 2015
    • Thanks Hanne! Panoramas are great for catching a bigger scale of a place, aren’t they? πŸ™‚
