Weekly Photo Challenge: Descent
The spectacular winding descent down Jordan’s King’s Highway is one of the most historically and religiously significant roads in the world.
The 5,000 year old highway epically follows the contours of the sandy rolling hills above the Dead Sea, passing biblical sites, Crusader castles, and Roman forts along the way, and has witnessed Israelites en route to the Promised Land, Crusaders traveling to their castle fortifications and Muslim pilgrims going to and from Mecca.
Our drive from Madaba, home of the oldest surviving topographic depiction of the Holy Land, through the Wadi Mujib Valley, and down to the Dead Sea, was at times surreal, at times scary, but always fascinating.
