Weekly Photo Challenge: On the Move (in a Fiat Cinquecento)
For this week’s Photo Challenge, we’re “On the Move” in a classic Fiat Cinquecento!
Agri lived in Italy from 1995 – 2001, and during that time, he managed to convince a few guys to be his friends. 😉 I guess he didn’t alienate them completely, because they’re still kicking around, and every time we visit Italy, we get to meet up with them and their partners, and they’re always amazingly hospitable and generous.
The last time we met, Andrea and Fabio surprised us by pulling up in Andrea’s classic Fiat Cinquecento.
Produced by Fiat between 1957 and 1975, the Cinquecento was Italy’s first affordable 5 person car. It measured just 2.97 metres long, and was sufficiently powered by a 479 cc two-cylinder, air-cooled engine.
After taking a short journey in it, I can only imagine that they made the car affordable by making it as small as possible. With 3 guys and little old me, it was seriously crowded, and a delicately planned placement of limbs was crucial to the success of our ride.
Nonetheless, this adorable little Fiat, enjoyed massive success throughout Europe and today, enjoys cult car status.
