Goseokjeong Flower Garden | An Endless Sea of Astonishing Autumn Flowers, 90 minutes from Seoul
Goseokjeong Flower Garden is a never-ending ocean of pretty pink muhly, cheonilhong, baekilhong, kochia scoparia, cosmos, and silver grass in full bloom near Seoul. It really has to be seen to be believed.
So far, it’s still pretty under the radar for tourists visiting Korea, but it won’t stay that way for long.
A vast sea of flowers at Goseokjeong Flower Garden.
I visited Gosekjeong Flower Garden last October, and was absolutely stunned by the endless fields of fall blooms and autumn grasses. I can’t wait to go again this year.
If seeing literal carpets of flowers in Korea is on your agenda, this is definitely the place to go!

The Goseokjeong Flower Field is part of the wider Goseokjeong National Tourist area in Cheorwon-gun.
It includes Silla era Goseokjeong Pavilion, Goseokbawi Rock, and the Hantan River, which was listed as a UNESCO Global Geopark in 2020, for its geological and ecological value.

During the Three Kingdoms’ War, and the Korean War, this region was a battleground – and as such, there are many historical and modern military sites to explore, including less-visited parts of the DMZ.
Goseokjeong Flower Garden has brilliantly transformed what was once a military training area, into a vibrant symphony of colour and positive vibes.

It’s possible to see at least 18 different types of flora there, including cosmos, globe amaranth, pink muhly, sunflowers, guara, and golden miscanthus, planted across 15 hectares of land.
Trust me – there are literally MILLIONS of flowers at Goseokjeong Flower Field, and it is absolutely breathtaking.
When to visit Goseokjeong Flower Garden?

Goseokjeong Pavilion Flower Garden opens to the public in spring and autumn, only.
In spring, over 100,000 people visited the garden, and the autumn season promises to be even busier. Opening dates for 2025 are currently slated for August 27th to November 2nd.

On Fridays and Saturdays, and during the Chuseok holidays, garden hours will be extended until 21:00, with last entry at 20:00. During these times, it’s illuminated with thousands of sparkling lights and bulbs.
On weekends and some holidays, Goseokjeong stays open late.
SIDE NOTE: The closing date of the Goseokjeong autumn flower festival could change based on weather conditions and the state of the flowers, so it’s best to confirm before you go. It could even be extended, like their spring flower festival was.

How to get to Goseokjeong from Seoul?
Address: 25-203, Jangheung-ri, Dongsong-eup, Cheorwon-gun, Gangwon State 강원특별자치도 철원군 동송읍 장흥리 25-203
Goseokjeong Flower Garden is located in Cheorwon-gun, about 90-km north of Seoul, in Gangwon-do Province.
The best and easiest way to get there independently is definitely to drive yourself. It takes about an hour and half to get there, under ideal traffic conditions.
Kochia scoparia in various stages of bloom.
There are many other things to see in the region, including little touristed DMZ sites, the UNESCO-listed Hantangan River geopark, and the historic Goseokjeon Pavilion.
If you don’t have your own vehicle, I’d definitely consider renting a car – as it would give you total freedom to explore the entire area, and make the trip extra worthwhile.
Public Transit + Taxi
If you really want to go the public transit route, it’s possible to take a combination of Intercity Bus and taxi from Seoul to Goseokjeong.
- From Dong Seoul Bus Terminal, take an Intercity bus to Sincheorwon Terminal.
- It takes about 1 hour and 40 minutes, and costs around 10,000 won.
- Once at Sincheorwan Terminal, hop in a taxi to Goseokjeong Flower Garden.
- The cost should be around 11,000 won, and it takes about 11 minutes.
A taxi is a better option than bus for reaching Goseokjeong Flower Garden.
Theoretically, there’s a local bus from the bus terminal in Cheorwon that will get you reasonably close to the Flower Garden, but it comes rarely, or not at all. Personally, I wouldn’t rely on it, and budget for a taxi.
The total cost for using this method of transport would be around 40,000 won round-trip. So yeah, if you’re traveling with friends – definitely consider renting a car instead. There’s so much to see and do in this region!
GOOD TO KNOW | If you plan to rent a car in Korea, you’ll need a book type International Drivers License (obtained in your country), and a credit card in your name. The typical rental age is 25 and up, but every company has different policies, so make sure to read the fine print.
On a Day Tour from Seoul
Currently, there’s one group tour available from Seoul to Cheorwan that includes Goseokjeong Flower Garden (I told you it was under the radar). It’s worth considering, especially if you don’t plan to drive yourself.
Once you factor in the time and cost of admission fees and public transit, you’ll find the difference in price to be quite minor.
Some of the prettiest pink muhly is at Yangju Nari Park.
UNESCO Hantan Canyon, Goseokjeong Flower Garden, and Yanju Nari Park Tour
This day tour makes stops at Hantangan River Geopark. Goseokjeong Flower Garden, and another of Korea’s top autumn hotspots – Yangju Nari Park.
You can book this tour on Klook, or on Creatrip. Make sure you select the autumn option.
Goseokjeong Flower Field Tickets
As far as I know, there isn’t anywhere to purchase tickets in advance. You can buy them at the box office, either in person or through a kiosk, upon arrival. That’s what we did.
Goseokjeong Flower Garden tickets cost 4,000 to 10,000 won.
Admission fees for the Goseokjeong Flower Garden are as follows:
- Adults, 19 years of age and up: 10,000 won
- Kids, 7 – 18 years of age: 4,000 won
I was surprised (and happy) to receive a coupon worth 50% of my admission price. This can be used to purchase items inside the flower field, and it’s given to everyone that enters the Goseokjeong Flower Festival.
There’s food stalls, cafes, and a product sales area inside the garden, so it’s super easy to use the coupon. We indulged in tteokbokki, and odeng – perfect for the chilly evening temperatures when we were there.
It got really windy and cold after the sun went down.

My Personal Tips for Visiting
This is what I wish I’d known before going to Goseokjeong Flower Garden. I hope these tips help you have a wonderful day discovering one of Korea’s hidden gems.
Goseokjeong is one of the best autumn gardens I’ve seen near Seoul.
The sun is strong. Protect yourself.
There isn’t a ton of shade at the Goseokjeong autumn flower festival, and the sun can be very, very intense during autumn in Korea.
It’s worth using a sunbrella or wearing a hat to protect your face and scalp. You’d also definitely need to slather on sunscreen, and maybe even carry some with you for re-application, if you plan to spend a lot of time at the garden.
There’s not much shade at Goseokjeong Flower Garden.
Carry your own water.
There’s definitely food, coffee, and beverages available there, but it’s concentrated in a barn on one side of the flower fields.
Goseokjeong is HUGE, covering 24 hectares in total, so walking back and forth just to get water isn’t really the best use of your time. Bring a bottle from home, or pick some up before you start wandering around the flower festival in earnest.
Goseokjeong Flower Garden is really, really big!
Carry layers for cooler evening temperatures.
I’m not sure if it’s because of it’s location on the northern border of South Korea or what, but wow, this place got so frigid in the late afternoon and evening hours. The wind was so icy and strong, it made it feel much colder than the relative temperatures.
Does she look cold? Because she was…
We were lucky we had some warmer jackets in the car, but it still wasn’t really enough. Don’t be like us – go prepared!
For reference, we visited around mid-October in Korea.
Wear comfortable shoes.
Like I said, Goseokjeong Flower Field is REALLY big. You’ll clock thousands of steps exploring, so a comfortable pair of shoes is necessary.
I also wouldn’t recommend sandals, but some kind of covered shoe or boot. The pathways are mostly flat, but some can be gravelly, and like I said – it can get very cold at night.
Enjoy all the pretty flowers at Goseokjeong Flower Garden!
