Travel-Stained Monthly Recap: July 2016

So many things to write about, and no time to write about them. Isn’t that always the way when you’re on the road? Add in a busy, crawling everywhere, hands in everything 10 month old, and keeping up with your blog feels darn near impossible.

I’m counting my blessings though, because Naia has been an absolute dream on this 3 month journey of ours. Despite constantly changing countries, environments, new people, and even different beds, she’s handling it all like a jaded travel veteran.

We started out July on the Freccia Bianca – one of Italy’s 300 km/hour fast trains – traveling from La Spezia to Rome. After 4 short days in the Eternal City, we hopped on a plane bound for Albania, where we met grandpa for the first time, and spent a week relaxing by the sea in Durres, eating more food than one should probably eat. What can I say? It’s hard to resist 50 cent cappuccinos, $4 pizzas and 10$ veal steaks.

After finding out that the island of Lefkada was but a 6-7 hour drive from Tirana, we rented a car and took a totally spontaneous and unplanned trip to Greece. We drove all over the island and lounged around on some of the world’s most incredible beaches, before heading back to Albania to reconnect with friends and family and attend the wedding of 2 very close friends. Friends that we’d set up in Thailand at the end of our RTW in early 2013. Hooray for successful matchmaking! ๐Ÿ˜€

Three short days on the Albanian Riviera, in Dhermi, with the newly married couple and friends from all over the world, and our time in the country was up.

In July, we finished posting photos from our time in the Alsace region of France, and moved onto pics from the gastronomic city of Lyon, before moving onto super-photogenic Cinque Terre. Or rather, the 2 villages we passed through enroute to the 5 towns that actually make up the Cinque Terre.

I’ll have lots more pics from the actual Cinque Terre villages – Monterosso, Riomaggiore, Corneglia, Vernazza and Manarola – coming up soon.

The top 3 pics from last month were:

And the most popular (ahem only) video was too cute not to share (yeah, I might be slightly biased). Despite her first shocking introduction to lemons in Durres, a full grown love affair has bloomed between Naia and the sour fruit. How she sucks the juice completely out of those things I’ll never understand.

At this moment, our little family is camped out at a friend’s house near Lake Bracciano, on the outskirts of Rome. After a hectic month of traveling, we’re taking a few days to visit with dearly missed friends, eat some home cooked food, and be wonderfully still.

That doesn’t mean we’re done traveling though. There’s 5 weeks left before our European summer is over, and you just never know where we’ll end up!

How successful are you at blogging while on the road? Do you manage to post while traveling? or do you write once you return home?

  1. You and your little family are really traveling far and wide this summer. Sounds like no slowing down…but at the same time you are going slow enough to take a lot of photos ๐Ÿ˜€ It looks like grandpa had a good time with Naia, and they look like they got along really well! Haha, with family, they will always go out of their way to feed you heaps. If they don’t cook for you, they will take you out for a nice meal ๐Ÿ˜€

If there was a lemon sucking competition, maybe Naia will win it. I can’t even put a lemon slice in my mouth without wincing, lol.

    • Haha, I think Naia would win the World Lemon Sucking competition. Now, she drinks lemon water and sucks the juice out of huge slices of lemons. Not sure where she got this taste preference from, but it’s pretty funny. Agri’s gained 5kg already since we’ve been here, and I’m sure I would be the same except that I’m still breastfeeding and that keeps the weight off. Thank goodness! I hate to think of what would happen otherwise. :p

  2. Wow she grew so much. Grandpa seems to be very proud !
The pictures look really great and I guess it would be a great vacation area once we have a week time or so to relax at a beach…(guess I should contact you for some tips ๐Ÿ™‚ )

    • SO MUCH! It feels like she went from baby to little girl in just the last month! Everyone says it goes fast, and I guess it’s true. I think Lefkada is perfect for a 1 week break, and the water colour there was just unbelievable. Like nothing I’ve ever seen before. Feel free to message any time for tips! ๐Ÿ™‚

    • Hey Bev! It’s been a great summer so far, and Naia seems to enjoy being on the road even more than we do. ๐Ÿ™‚

  5. Sooo hard to post while traveling, especially in countries with spotty wifi, like where I am right now! I think you’ve actually done an amazing job of keeping up. Your summer seems heavenly!

    • SO hard! Spotty wifi is sooo frustrating isn’t it? It looks like you’re having a great adventure from your IG photos though. ๐Ÿ™‚ So far, I can’t complain too much about our summer, def wanna get a bit more beach time in though before it’s up!

  7. Sounds like exciting times. I’m rubbish at on the road stuff. Much prefer to relive the experience after. ๐Ÿ™‚

    • That’s a positive way of looking at it! ๐Ÿ™‚ I set myself the challenge to at least get a monthly recap out on time, and even this comes sometimes a week late, especially if we’re on the road. And now with a wee one…lol, blogging has definitely taken a back seat!
