Our last minute, totally unplanned beach break is unfortunately at an end. Weβve spent the last 10 days getting massaged, tanning on the beach, weathering tropical storms and eating spicy Indonesian food.
I canβt wait to share with you all the details of how it happened, where weβve been, and what weβve been doing. Here’s a little preview.

I just left Bali and this is so accurate! Thank you for sharing your trip.
Shelley @Travel-Stained
Bali is such a wonderful place!!! I hope you had a wonderful trip. π
missjsworld
I did! I just wrote a post about it coming out later this week. I tagged this post in the blog hope you don’t mind! π
Shelley @Travel-Stained
Sure, no problem. Look forward to reading it. π

I am so jealous!
Shelley @Travel-Stained
It’s such a wonderful place. I hope you get to visit one day. π
Bams Triwoko
Did you often ‘sun bath’ in Bali ?? LOL π
Have a wonderful week.
Shelley @Travel-Stained
As much as possible!! But the sun in Bali is so strong, we had to be a little bit careful too. π

Oh, I am so jealous as I can hear the rain lashing on the windows outside. Can’t wait to read about it. I haven’t been to Bali since 2002, so will be really interesting to see how much it’s changed!
Shelley @Travel-Stained
We had our share of rain on Gili Air and even lost power for 36 hours! But somehow, a storm over beautiful waters on an island paradise is not quite the same as at home, is it? π Our last visit to Bali was at the end of 2012, and we were completely surprised to find the airport has been renovated since then!
Justine
How exciting! I can’t wait to read about your trip π
Shelley @Travel-Stained
It was a great last minute break for us… needed some beach time for sure! π
kencrzdo
Such a wonderful place!
Shelley @Travel-Stained
One of our favourite for sure! π

I still have yet to make it to Bali! Looking at your pictures makes me really want to go though! I guess I will just have to make do with a beach here (my life is so rough haha).:)
Shelley @Travel-Stained
Lol…yeah, really feel bad for you (NOT). π I would totally recommend a trip to Bali (but not to the touristy areas of Kuta or Seminyak, or even the centre or Ubud – outside of Ubud in the villages nearby). It’s so close to you, it would be an easy trip…and I have to say that Balinese massages are the best! Better than Thailand even… π
andthreetogo
That is definitely a draw for me! Thanks π

We never had any unplanned or unexpected vacation. It is more like we barely have any places we go during our spare free time so I am envious of everyone who is able to do so π
Shelley @Travel-Stained
In Korea, there are only a few national holidays where you get more than 1 day off. Is it the same where you are? Every Chinese New Year, and during Chuseok (Korean thanksgiving), there is usually a mass exodus out of the country. Usually, we stay in Seoul during those times, because it’s so wonderfully quiet in the city, but this year, we really felt the need to visit a beach! π
CrazyChineseFamily
We have few national holidays which are often combined with holidays so you use for example four of your holiday days and get a total of nine or even ten days off! But the thing is that traveling with a little baby is really hard and to further complicate matters it is very hard to combined holiday schedules with your partner, in this case my wife who is busy in language classes till July.
Shelley @Travel-Stained
That’s what people do here too, but it’s very difficult to get much time off, all the same. For sure, it must be difficult to coordinate everything AND to travel with a little one! We’re trying to have a baby right now, and I’m interested to see how having a child will impact our travel lifestyle.
CrazyChineseFamily
We have been only to small trips since we have the baby (can be seen on my blog, one trip to Talinn and one trip to Rhodes). It is possible to travel but there a lot of of things to consider which you would never think of when traveling without a kid

Ah, Bali. What a wonderfully exotic destination, Shelley. Beautiful photos. π
Shelley @Travel-Stained
Bali, and in particular, the villages around Ubud, are definitely one of favourite places in the world. I feel such peace the moment I land there! π
yolomoments12
wow !
Shelley @Travel-Stained
Bali is breathtakingly beautiful indeed! π
lexklein
Oh, you’re killing me! Woke up to (more) snow this morning here …. but I do look forward to seeing more about your trip. And how weird that I missed Athens in your quiz! My mom is from Greece and I’ve been to Athens many, many times!
Shelley @Travel-Stained
Lol…sorry Lex!! :p The winter in some parts of North America seems especially brutal this year. Hopefully you’ll get a break soon! Your mom is from Greece? What a lovely place to be able to visit time and time again. I’m hoping to get there again this summer to do a little island hopping. π
Kayleigh
I LOVE Bali! What a beautiful place, huh? And the PEOPLE…wonderful!
Shelley @Travel-Stained
Bali has got to be one of most favourite places on earth. I feel such a sense of wellbeing the second I land there, and you are right…the people are beyond gentle and kind. I thought Thai people were chilled out, but the Balinese are on a whole other level! π
Kayleigh
Absolutely! Think I’m returning in January ?
Shelley @Travel-Stained
AMAZING!! (and I’m jealous) π I miss it already. Whereabouts are you going? Any solid plans yet?
Kayleigh
It’s through the ship I work on so we are only there 2 days 1 night. Not sure yet what we’ll end up doing. π
Shelley @Travel-Stained
2 days are better than none…especially when it comes to Bali!! π
Indah Susanti
Oh Bali!! Looking forward!! – LOL on the sign from the German – I am sure they speak good English-American-Canadian-Australian π π too funny and well spot!
Shelley @Travel-Stained
Lol…that sign was pretty funny. I wonder if I speak Canadian? Haha. π
Indah Susanti
π fluently I am sure π
Sha
I already love it!! I’m suffering from withdrawal too….I want my beach back…or even better, no work + beach = bliss! ???
Shelley @Travel-Stained
Total withdrawal! made even worse by the fact that after all that time in tropical temperatures, now it feels soooo deathly cold in Seoul. π I literally couldn’t take it walking around last night!
Sha
Haha..I think you are staying in the wrong place, just move to SEA..you can enjoy sun all year long..well, other than the monsoon periods when we get drowned in rain or the humidity where we literally sweat all year round…think this is preferable to cold..haha? ?
Shelley @Travel-Stained
Lol, well when you put it that way… I think I’ll stick with my 4 season Seoul. Actually what I need to find, is someplace where it’s constantly 25 degrees, sunny and has little humidity. Oh, and a beach nearby, good coffee and reliable wifi. You wouldn’t happen to know anywhere like that, would you? π
Sha
Hahaha! If you ever find one, do tell me…I would like to visit too…but oh, tea will do for me instead…hehe…sorry for the late reply!! Been in a really bummed mood of late…blame it on the holiday!! π
Shelley @Travel-Stained
Aww, you’ve got a vacation hangover. π The best solution is to go on another holiday. π
Sha
Hahaha, my bank account thanks you for that timely suggestion…??
