First things first: Incheon Airport is nowhere near Myeongdong. It sits way out on the West coast of Korea, meaning you’re looking at a 60-kilometre journey to reach Seoul.
Depending on how you travel, it could take anywhere from an hour to 90 minutes (or more) just to get into the city.

Staying in Myeongdong is a great call because it’s literally right in the middle of downtown Seoul, with amazing travel infrastructure, shopping, night markets, and easy access to major tourist attractions. There’s a real reason it’s the most popular place to stay in Seoul for first time visitors, but you definitely need a realistic game plan before you walk out of arrivals with your suitcases.

For most people heading to Myeongdong from Incheon Airport, the AREX Express Train is the best way to cut down your travel time. It’s a premium, non-stop service that goes direct to Seoul Station in less than an hour. It boards directly from the basement AREX stations of both airport terminals.

The AREX Express train is a lot more comfortable than the regular commuter subway because you get an assigned seat, free Wi-Fi, power outlets, and plenty of dedicated racks to store your heavy bags.
And since it runs on rail tracks, you don’t have to worry about highway traffic, which makes it really dependable. Once you get to Seoul Station, you’re only a quick two-stop subway ride or quick taxi ride away from Myeongdong. It’s a great choice if you’re not overburdened with too much luggage, and want to get from Incheon Airport to Myeongdong fast.

- Last Train Departures: 10:40 PM from Terminal 2; 10:48 PM from Terminal 1.

Crucial: Make Sure You Skip the AREX All-Stop Train
When you walk down to the airport train terminal, you’ll see blue and orange signs split up by turnstiles. This is because there are 2 separate trains that leave from the same station: the AREX Express and the AREX All-stop train.

The AREX All-Stop train functions like a standard commuter subway that stops at every single station along the way. It takes longer, has no assigned seating, and leaves you squeezed in with daily commuters while you try to manage your luggage.
Make sure you follow the orange signs and head through the orange gates to board the AREX Express Train instead.
How to Transfer to Subway Line 4 at Seoul Station
Once the AREX train arrives at Seoul Station, you’ll have to transfer from the TRAIN station to the Seoul Station SUBWAY station (line 4), to jump on the subway to Myeongdong Station (also line 4).

I know it sounds complicated, but it really isn’t. Everything will make sense once you’re on the ground. Don’t worry! The walk takes about 10 minutes, so just follow the blue signs for Line 4. From there, it is a fast, two-stop subway ride directly to Myeongdong Station.
If you’re travelling with heavy suitcases, navigating subway station crowds and stairs with your gear can be challenging. In this case, it’s better to go to street level and head out to the official taxi stand instead. Make things easy by having the address and phone number for your final destination written out in Korean for your taxi driver.

Bus 6015 is the one you’ll likely want to take to Myeongdong since it cuts straight across the Mapo Bridge and loops tightly around the northern and eastern edges of the neighbourhood. Keep an ear out for the English announcements so you can hit the stop buzzer at the right spot.
Stop 1: Euljiro 1-ga Station / Ibis Ambassador Myeongdong (을지로입구역.광교)
This is the first stop the 6015 bus makes when it hits the main downtown area, right on the northern edge of Myeongdong. It’s the best choice if you are staying at the Ibis Ambassador Myeongdong, Lotte Hotel Seoul, or Stanford Hotel Myeongdong. It drops you right on the main avenue, so it’s a super short, flat walk to the hotels without having to dodge any night market crowds.
Stop 2: Royal Hotel Seoul / Euljiro 2-ga (을지로2가.기업은행본점)
The bus pulls up a little further down the street, right near the northern entrances of the main shopping streets. It lets you off right on the wide sidewalk, making it a really easy, flat walk straight to the front desk of the hotel.
Stop 3: Myeongdong Station / Sejong Hotel (명동역.세종호텔)
This stop is on the southern side of the neighbourhood, pulling up right by Myeongdong Subway Exits 8 and 10, near the KB Bank and right across the street from the massive multi-floor Daiso. This is the stop you want for L7 Myeongdong, Nine Tree Premier Hotel Myeongdong I, or Hotel Skypark Myeongdong 3. It leaves you right where the main night market action happens.
Bus 6001 from Incheon Airport to Myeongdong
Bus 6001 from Incheon Airport takes a completely different route from the 6015. It cuts past Seoul Station and Namdaemun Market first, then circles back to Myeongdong from the south side.

Stop 1: Namdaemun Market / Hoehyeon Station (회현역)
After it gets through the messy traffic around Seoul Station, this is the first stop the bus makes on its way to Myeongdong from Incheon airport. It’s the best choice if you’re staying at the Courtyard by Marriott Seoul Namdaemun or L’Escape Hotel. It drops you right at the edge of the market, and it’s a completely flat, easy walk straight to both hotel lobbies.
Stop 2: Myeongdong Station (명동역)
This stop is right along the main road near Myeongdong Subway Exit 8 – basically across the street from the giant multi-story Daiso. This is where you want to get off for L7 Myeongdong, Nine Tree Premier Hotel Myeongdong I, or Hotel Skypark Myeongdong 3. It’s also right on the edge of the main street food market, so you can grab a snack on your way in.
Stop 3: Chungmuro Station / Hotel PJ (충무로역)
This is the last stop on the loop before the 6001 bus heads off toward the east side of the city. Get off here if you’re staying a little bit outside the main shopping zones at Hotel PJ or G3 Hotel Myeongdong. It saves you from having to drag your bags back through the crowded streets.

The 6701 K-Limousine from Incheon Airport to Myeongdong bus drives past Seoul Station and stops right by City Hall square, then circles around to drop passengers off directly in front of the retail and hotel streets on the northern edge of Myeongdong. Here’s a quick look at the main stops and the hotels they serve.
HEADERS: K-Limousine Route | Main Luxury Hotel Stop | Best For (Nearby Hotels) ROW: Bus 6701 | The Plaza Hotel (시청.플라자호텔) | The Plaza Hotel Seoul, Sotetsu Hotels Splaisir Seoul Myeongdong ROW: Bus 6701 | Lotte Hotel Seoul (을지로입구.롯데호텔) | Lotte Hotel Seoul, Stanford Hotel Myeongdong, Westin Josun SeoulStop 1: The Plaza Hotel (시청.플라자호텔)
The bus pulls up right along the main City Hall plaza road just west of Myeongdong. Get off here if you’re booked at The Plaza Hotel Seoul or the Sotetsu Hotels Splaisir Seoul Myeongdong. It drops you right on the main avenue, so it’s an incredibly easy, flat walk straight to the front desk.
Stop 2: Lotte Hotel Seoul (을지로입구.롯데호텔)
This is one of the main central stops right on the northern edge of the neighbourhood. It’s the best stop to get off at if you’re staying at the Lotte Hotel Seoul, Stanford Hotel Myeongdong, or the Westin Josun Seoul. The bus lets you off right by the main entrances, so you can walk straight into the lobby completely shielded from any bad weather.

Public Airport Taxis
If you want an on-demand ride straight to your hotel without dealing with train platforms or bus schedules, you can walk straight out to the official taxi stands at Incheon Airport.
A regular mid-sized taxi into Myeongdong usually costs between 55,000 to 75,000 KRW depending on traffic, while a larger Jumbo Taxi runs on a premium meter closer to 90,000 to 110,000 KRW. In all case, you’re responsible for paying any additional highway tolls.

Taking a taxi in Seoul comes with some unique local quirks – like limited trunk space due to built-in LPG fuel tanks, and midnight surcharges. It’s good to know that most taxi drivers speak limited English, so make sure to have your address written out in Korean before arriving at Incheon Airport.

BODY_START For a complete look at how to safely navigate the Incheon Airport taxis, those tiny trunks, and how nighttime surcharges work, head over to my comprehensive Incheon Airport to Seoul Master Transportation Guide → BODY_ENDPre-Booked Private Transfers: Best for Families & Big Groups
If you’re traveling with children, a large group, or arrive late at night, pre-booking a private airport transfer is undoubtedly the best and most comfortable option for getting from Incheon Airport to Myeongdong quickly and safely. Instead of standing in a queue at the public taxi stands after a long flight, you just walk out of arrivals and meet your driver, who will already be tracking your flight.

There are large vans and even private buses that can easily fit big groups with all their bags, which actually makes it pretty cheap if you split the cost. Plus, you get dropped off right at your hotel lobby. That’s pretty convenient for Myeongdong, because a lot of hotels are tucked down busy pedestrian side streets where public transit can’t go.
- Travel Time: Around 60 to 80 minutes depending on traffic levels. Just keep in mind that if you land right during rush hour or on a big holiday like Chuseok or Seollal, all bets on timing are out the window.
- Best For: Families with strollers, groups of three or more, and late-night flights.
- Booking: You can lock in a fixed price online ahead of time, so you don’t have to scramble for cash or deal with a language barrier when you’re traveling from Incheon Airport to Myeongdong.

Incheon Airport to Myeongdong at Night
If you land at Incheon Airport after midnight, your only options for getting into Myeongdong are: private transfer, public taxi, or night bus.
In this case, it’s worth pricing out the price of a private transfer vs a night bus + taxi, since you’ll likely have to take a taxi to your final destination, no matter what.
N6701 Night Bus to Myeongdong
N6701 is a premium late-night bus route that’s perfect for getting to Myeongdong from Incheon Airport late at night. An adult ticket costs 18,000 KRW, and a child ticket (ages 6 to 12) is 12,000 KRW. Since the indoor staffed ticket counters close down overnight, make sure to buy your physical paper ticket at the automated outdoor kiosks right next to the bus platforms.

The N6701 departs from both terminals, heads past Mapo and Seoul Station, and drops passengers off right at Euljiro 1-ga Station—which sits directly at the top end of the Myeongdong shopping district. If your hotel is on the north edge of the neighbourhood, your lobby might even be within close walking distance of the bus stop.
- Terminal 2 Boarding: Head down to Basement Level 1 (B1) Transportation Center and wait at Bus Stop 18. Buses depart at 23:30, 00:20, 01:20, 03:25, and 04:20.
- Terminal 1 Boarding: Go outside to the 1F arrivals level sidewalk at Bus Stop 3B. Buses depart at 23:50, 00:40, 01:40, 03:45, and 04:40.

IMPORTANT: While you can buy discount vouchers online for daytime buses, don’t do it if you’re landing after midnight. You won’t be able to exchange your digital QR code for a physical ticket since the ticket counters are closed.
Quick Prep: Getting your Seoul Transit Card
Before you head down to the AREX train station or walk outside to the bus stops, you need to sort out a local transit card. Cash is no longer accepted on local Seoul city buses, and trying to buy single-journey subway tickets every time you move around will drive you crazy. Getting your card sorted right at the airport is mandatory.

- For the AREX Express Train: You can pre-book discount ticket vouchers online, but you can also use a standard T-Money Card or an all-in-one WOWPASS to tap through the gates.
- For the Limousine Bus: If you’re leaving from Terminal 1, you can tap your T-Money or WOWPASS right at the bus door. But if you’re departing from Terminal 2, you must buy a physical paper ticket at the kiosks before boarding—transit cards aren’t accepted on buses departing from T2.

You can pick up standard T-Money cards at any airport convenience store (like CU, GS25, or 7-Eleven) right on the arrivals level. If you want a cashless option that doubles as a local currency exchange and debit card, you’ll find WOWPASS vending machines at the AREX train station.

Getting to Myeongdong from Incheon FAQ
LABEL: 🚌 People Also Ask FAQ_START Q: How far is Myeongdong from Incheon Airport? A: The total road distance between Incheon Airport and Myeongdong is roughly 60 kilometres, depending on the exact highway route your driver takes into the city centre. FAQ_END FAQ_START Q: How long does it take to get from Incheon Airport to Myeongdong? A: It completely depends on how you travel. The absolute fastest route is taking the AREX Express Train to Seoul Station, which takes about 43 minutes, plus a quick 10-minute subway or taxi jump over to Myeongdong. FAQ_END FAQ_START Q: What’s the cheapest way to get from Incheon to Myeongdong? A: The cheapest option is riding the AREX All-Stop train, which costs around 4,350 to 5,350 KRW per person. Just a heads-up that you’ll have to transfer to Seoul Subway Line 4 at Seoul Station, and navigating the stairs with heavy bags isn’t exactly fun. What a great guide! I’m a big fan of Korean Air and so my boyfriend and I travel through Seoul a lot. Leaving the airport on our own has always seemed a little intimidating to learn for just a few short hours (and the free transit tours never seem to line up with our schedule). I feel like next time we fly through I know what to do now! Thanks!
I LOVE Korean Air, and have pretty much ONLY flown them since my daughter was born… they just make family travel so much less stressful. I’d say if you’ve got 6 hours for a layover, you could totally leave the airport and explore a little. Take the AREX train somewhere next time and have a wander. 🙂
I know you got me into Seoul on some bus that worked perfectly, so I’d trust you on this one, too! 🙂
If there’s one thing Seoul does right, it’s transportation. Now, get back over here, so we can meet in person! 😉
