It’s a completely open public event held right on the riverfront at different Hangang parks in Seoul – and it’s become one of the most popular nights out for both locals and tourists alike. Trust me on this one – I’ve turned up just 15 minutes before the drones launched at the Jamsil Hangang Park drone show (since it’s walking distance from my house), and ended up stuck behind a tree where all my views of the drones were partially blocked.

Cultural Arts Performances Part 1: 19:30 – 20:30

Han River Drone Show Locations & How to Get There

Getting to the right Hangang Park is half the battle. The Seoul Drone Show rotates across different Han River Parks depending on the week, so you’ve got to double-check the schedule before you head out. Each spot has a slightly different setup, but knowing exactly which subway exits to use in advance will make your arrival a whole lot easier.

Ttukseom Hangang Park Drone Show (뚝섬한강공원)

Ttukseom Hangang Park was the original spot for the Seoul Drone show, and it’s still where most of them take place. It makes sense. The lawns are wide open, there aren’t as many trees, and since the drones launch right near Parking Lot 1, you get an amazing view from the grass, but it also means you’re going to be packed in tight with everyone else.

The difficult thing is getting out after the Han River Drone show ends. The second they land, staff will slow down the entrance gates to the subway station for safety, and you could end up standing in a really long line just to tap your T-money card and get up to the platform.

If you want to skip that whole nightmare, skip Jayang Station when the drone show finishes. Instead, just walk away from the water and head north through the local neighbourhood streets straight towards Konkuk University Station. It’s only about a fifteen-minute walk, and because it hooks up to both Line 2 and Line 7, you can bypass a lot of the crowd at the Han River and get onto a subway faster.

Yeouido Hangang Park Drone Show (여의도한강공원)

Yeouido Hangang Park is a great spot if you want to see the city skyline right behind the lights, but it gets unbelievably packed. The biggest headache here is the exit at Yeouinaru Station. You’ll exit right at the top of the Han River, so you’re fighting for space from the second you step off the escalator.

Because it’s such a popular hangout spot even on normal weekends, adding the Seoul Drone Show into the mix means the grassy areas fill up incredibly fast.

If you don’t get there early enough to grab a spot, you’ll end up stuck so far back that the trees will block your view. Plus, the convenience stores near the station turn into absolute chaos – you’ll definitely want to sort out your food situation before you arrive.

While the city doesn’t always completely shut down the subway station like they do for the massive autumn fireworks festival in September, they’ll definitely restrict the station exits if the crowd gets a bit too big.

If the platforms get too packed right after the Hangang Light Show finishes, you might find staff blocking the station entrances. If you want to skip dealing with that hassle on the way in or out, it’s a safer bet to just bypass Yeouinaru Station completely and walk over from either Yeouido Station or National Assembly Station. Jamsil Hangang Park Drone Show (잠실한강공원)

Jamsil is a bit of a wildcard since the city doesn’t use it nearly as much as the other two parks. They usually save this spot for special holiday weekends, but it’s a great location if you’re lucky enough to catch a show here. The real selling point is the view of the Lotte World Tower lighting up right behind everything, which makes for some incredible photos.

The main issue here isn’t the train platform itself, but the annoying concrete tunnels you have to walk through to leave the park. To get back toward the streets, you’re forced to squeeze through these narrow underpasses that cut right under the highway.

The second the drones come down, the crowd completely jams up inside them, and you’ll easily waste twenty minutes moving at a snail’s pace just to get out into the neighborhood. Once you’re clear of the tunnels, the walk back to Jamsilsaenae Station opens up a bit, but you should definitely expect a slow, packed march all the way to the turnstiles.

Han River Food Survival: Convenience Store Lines & Delivery Tips

If you’re going to head down early to get a good spot on the grass, you’re definitely going to need some food to get you through the evening. Cooking up some Hangang ramyeon is half the fun of hanging out at the river, but because the crowds are so crazy, the lines can be truly insane.

How to Successfully Hangang Ramyeon

On Seoul Drone show nights, the lines to get inside the convenience stores stretch out the door and wrap right around the building. If you want that classic Hangang ramyeon experience, you need to purchase your noodle bowls and snacks by 6:00 PM at the latest.

Once the pre-show music starts at 7:30 PM, the wait times just to get a bag of chips can top 30 to 45 minutes, meaning you’ll miss the drone show completely. A much better option is to buy your supplies at a normal convenience store before you go to the Han River, and carry it in.

Why Food Delivery Apps Fail on Drone Show Nights

To skip that whole convenience store mess, your next thought is probably to just order some fried chicken or pizza straight to the Hangang using an app like Baemin or Coupang Eats. It’s what locals do every weekend, but on a Han River Drone Light show night, it becomes another major headache.

There are designated Delivery Zones at all the main Hangang parks because drivers aren’t allowed to ride their scooters onto the actual grass anymore. When you order, your driver will drop the food off at one of these numbered stone plazas near the park entrances.

During the Seoul Drone show, the real problem is that your phone data will often slow down to a crawl because a hundred thousand people are all trying to use the network at the exact same time. It makes it incredibly frustrating to track your driver on the map, and you’ll end up wandering around a sea of identical delivery bikes trying to find the person holding your food.

If you still want to try, make sure you order your food long before the start of the drone show, so you can meet your driver and get back on time. Honestly though – the best option is to just eat elsewhere long before the crowds arrive.
